Modeling of viscosity of unstable crude oil-water mixture by characterization of energy consumption and crude oil physical properties

Haijun Luo et al.

Summary: When oilfield development enters the middle and late stages, the crude oil-water mixture often has a high water cut and cannot form a stable emulsion. Traditional emulsion viscosity models are not suitable for this unstable mixture. It is important to understand the viscosity characteristics of the unstable crude oil-water mixture with high water cut (UCMH) for pipeline transportation. The apparent viscosities of UCMH for 16 crude oils were determined and it was found that the apparent viscosity decreased with increasing shear rate, water cut of mixture, and temperature. The apparent viscosity of UCMH was not dependent on the content of single surfactants but was closely related to the content of combinatorial surfactants.

Modeling of microflow during viscoelastic polymer flooding in heterogenous reservoirs of Daqing Oilfield

Huiying Zhong et al.

Summary: Viscoelastic polymer flooding is widely used as an enhanced oil recovery method in oilfield development. This study focused on investigating the effects of polymer elasticity on displacement characteristics in Class II reservoirs, particularly in heterogeneous reservoirs. The research found that different oil layers have different displacement efficiencies, and increasing relaxation time can improve oil displacement efficiency.

Foaming Properties and Foam Structure of Produced Liquid in Alkali/Surfactant/Polymer Flooding Production

Zhihua Wang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the foaming properties of ASP flooding produced liquid through a series of experiments. The results showed that the concentration of chemical agents, temperature, and pressure are key factors affecting foaming capacity and foam stabilization. Different pH values, surfactant concentrations, and polymer concentrations also have an impact on foam stability.

Experimental and numerical performance study of a downward dual-inlet gas-liquid cylindrical cyclone (GLCC)

Yaan Wang et al.

Summary: The dual-inlet GLCC design improves liquid efficiency by directing most of the feed liquid to the lower cylinder, enhancing pre-separation and inhibiting short-circuit flow at the upper inlet. This configuration expands the operational envelope by reducing liquid entering the upper cylinder.

Experimental Study and Numerical Modeling of Boron Transport in Reservoir and Its Influence on Seawater-Breakthrough Calculation

Yanqing Wang et al.

Summary: Seawater injection is widely used in offshore oil reservoirs, but accurate calculation of seawater-breakthrough percentage is crucial to mitigate issues like souring and scaling. This study validated the use of natural-ion boron for this calculation, considering interactions with clays and the influence of pH on boron adsorption. The results highlighted the importance of understanding boron adsorption by different clays and the impact of solution pH on boron adsorption.

Strength matching factor of pipeline girth weld designed by reliability method

Kai Wu et al.

Summary: This paper reviewed the current research status of codes and standards related to the strength requirement of weld metals in the pipeline industry, and investigated the evolution of girth weld strength matching factor and pipeline failure probability under different conditions. The results showed a significantly reduced probability of pipe failure as the weld metal strength matching factor increased.

Weipeng Yang et al.

Summary: Surfactant flooding is an effective method to reduce oil/water interfacial tension, however, the dynamics of displacement can be significantly different at ultralow IFT, where oil displacement by surfactant solutions appears as drainage. The study also reveals the formation of microemulsion during displacement.

Hamid Niazi et al.

Summary: This study investigated load interactions influencing crack geometry evolution during early stages of High pH Stress Corrosion Cracking (HpHSCC). Results showed that underload cycles and minor cycles play roles in intergranular crack growth acceleration, and avoiding large internal pressure fluctuation delays the onset of stage 2 of HpHSCC.
