The chemical profile and biological activity of different extracts of Sapindus mukorossi Gaertn. against Cutibacterium acnes

Min-Ping Wei et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the antibacterial activities of different extracts of Sapindus mukorossi on Cutibacterium acnes, with the optimized extract showing the highest yield of saponins and best antibacterial activity. Transmission electron microscopy revealed destruction of bacterial cell membrane and wall, leading to cell lysis and death. Oleanane-type triterpenoid saponins were speculated to contribute to the antibacterial activities of the optimized extract.
