Development of MOF Reinforcement for Structural Stability and Toughness Enhancement of Biodegradable Bioinks

Cheng-Tien Hsieh et al.

Summary: Due to the multiple features required for bioinks, options are limited. Incorporating a metal-organic framework, ZIF-8, in the polyurethane-gelatin bioink resulted in significant structural stability and modulus enhancement. However, high concentrations of ZIF-8 may lead to cell senescence or death, with the optimal concentration for cell compatibility being around 875 μg/mL. The reinforcement effect of ZIF-8 and its drug-loading/sensing possibilities offer new opportunities for MOF use in 3D bioprinting.

In-situ synthesis of Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs)-PA12 powders and their laser sintering into hierarchical porous lattice structures

Binling Chen et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the use of in-situ synthesised MOF-polymer nanocomposite materials for laser-sintered parts with enhanced CO2 adsorption properties. By combining PA12 with nanofiller ZIF-67 crystals, a nanocomposite powder with good dispersion and maximum exposure of ZIF-67 nano-porous sites was fabricated. Laser sintering was employed to create porous structures with increased surface area, leading to improved CO2 capacity.
