Pregnancy in patients with multiple sclerosis

Borros M. Arneth

Summary: Pregnancy has been found to reduce the risk of multiple sclerosis (MS) relapse, but evidence on how pregnancy may affect the long-term progression of MS is lacking. MS does not increase the risk of maternal and fetal complications, and a significant correlation exists between pregnancy and MS relapse rates. The research results provide valuable insights for managing MS during pregnancy and monitoring patients with MS.

Regulation of T cell-associated tissues and T cell activation by RANKL-RANK-OPG

Matthew C. Walsh et al.

Summary: The RANKL-RANK-OPG system plays a critical role in T cell biology by regulating T cell tolerance and function through control over thymic development and lymphoid tissue. It influences key functions of the T cell compartment such as cell survival and antigen presentation by regulating the expression of RANKL and RANK on developing T cells and lymphoid tissue cells. Understanding the operation of the RANKL-RANK-OPG system in T cell biology is crucial for immune homeostasis and osteoimmunology.

T helper cell immunity in pregnancy and influence on autoimmune disease progression

Jonathon J. Graham et al.

Summary: Pregnancy poses a unique immunological challenge to the maternal immune system, as it needs to defend against pathogens while tolerating paternal allo-antigens expressed by fetal tissues. T helper cells play a central role in modulating immune responses during pregnancy, and dysregulation in these responses can lead to various obstetrical complications. Modulation of Th cell immunity during gestation is largely mediated by fluctuations in sex hormone concentrations, and changes in the balance of Th cell immunity during pregnancy can have both positive and negative effects on autoimmune conditions.

Blockade of NF-kappa B Translocation and of RANKL/RANK Interaction Decreases the Frequency of Th2 and Th17 Cells Capable of IL-4 and IL-17 Production, Respectively, in a Mouse Model of Allergic Asthma

Izabela Gregorczyk et al.

Summary: The study found that blocking NF-kappa B translocation and RANKL/RANK interaction can decrease IL-4 and IL-17 production by Th2 and Th17 cells, thereby inhibiting the development of allergic asthma. These strategies seem to be more advantageous than blocking IKK in terms of anti-asthmatic effects.
