Electrical Stimulation for Immune Modulation in Cancer Treatments

Ritopa Das et al.

Summary: Immunotherapy is a common treatment for cancer, but high doses of immune therapeutics often come with side effects. Combining immunotherapy with electrical stimulation shows promise in reducing the dosage of immune agents and improving the treatment efficacy. Electrical stimulation can modulate the immune system, activate immune cells against tumor cells, and enhance the cellular uptake of immune agents.

Neuroimmune communication regulating pruritus in atopic dermatitis

Martin Steinhoff et al.

Summary: Atopic dermatitis is a common chronic inflammatory skin disease, and its pathogenesis involves the dysregulation of neuroimmune circuits. Abnormal neuroimmune circuits can lead to inflammation, pruritus, pain, and skin barrier dysfunction. Understanding neuroimmune circuits and neuronal signaling is crucial for controlling the pathological mechanisms of atopic dermatitis.

Neural control of immune cell trafficking

Scott N. Mueller

Summary: The communication between the nervous system and the immune system plays a crucial role in both normal physiology and disease. This review explores how neural signals regulate the migration of leukocytes in the body and in tissues, as well as the contributions of different neural signals to an effective immune response. Neural regulation of leukocyte dynamics is influenced by circadian rhythms and can be altered by stress and disease. This review provides an examination of the current understanding of neuro-immune interactions that regulate leukocyte migration and their implications for protective immunity against infections and cancer.

Evaluation of Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy for Peripheral Nerve Regeneration: A Critical Review of Literature

Sulong Wang et al.

Summary: Peripheral nerve injury (PNI) is a common disease that leads to slow tissue regeneration and loss of nerve function. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP), a bioactive substance, can accelerate tissue regeneration by releasing growth factors. PRP has wide clinical applications and shows potential for peripheral nerve regeneration.

New insights into peripheral nerve regeneration: The role of secretomes

Estefania Contreras et al.

Summary: Neurons in the peripheral nervous system have the ability to regenerate their axons after injury by triggering a complex activation response. Schwann cells (SCs) play an active role in regulating axonal programs and orchestrating Wallerian degeneration and axonal regeneration through both cell-to-cell contacts and secreted signals. The secretome, which includes proteins, cytokines, growth factors, and extracellular vesicles, facilitates communication and is essential for axonal regeneration. The use of secretome has emerged as a promising alternative to cell therapy, reducing the risks associated with cell use. In this review, the roles of SC and macrophage secretomes in peripheral nerve injury are discussed, along with the use of secretomes in experimental models to enhance nerve regeneration.

Neural regulations of the tumor microenvironment

Summary: The identification of nerves in the tumor microenvironment has opened up a new area of research in cancer biology. Studies show that various types of peripheral nerves are present in the tumor microenvironment, and an increased nerve density correlates with poorer prognosis. Nerve-mediated alterations impact disease through processes like direct communication with cancer cells, modifying immune populations, and changing stromal components.
