Increasing global accessibility to high-level treatments for cervical cancers

C. Chargari et al.

Summary: Human papillomaviruses (HPV)-related gynecological cancers pose a major health issue in low- and middle-income countries. The World Health Organization has launched a program for cervical cancer elimination and providing optimal care to women diagnosed with invasive cancer is crucial.

Oncologic results of fertility sparing surgery of cervical cancer: An updated systematic review

P. Morice et al.

Summary: This review aims to evaluate the outcomes of different surgical treatments in preserving fertility in patients with cervical cancer by analyzing oncological issues. The results show that the oncological outcomes are similar among different surgical methods in patients with stage IB1 disease. However, in patients with stage IB2 disease, open surgery has the lowest recurrence rate. Nevertheless, open surgery has the lowest pregnancy rate.

Role of vaginal brachytherapy boost following adjuvant external beam radiotherapy in cervical cancer: Turkish Society for Radiation Oncology Gynecologic Group Study (TROD 04-002)

Melis Gultekin et al.

Summary: Adding vaginal brachytherapy boost to external beam radiotherapy did not provide any benefit in local control or survival in patients with cervical cancer. The study aimed to assess the impact of this addition on oncological outcomes and toxicity but found no significant difference in survival rates between treatment groups. Negative prognostic factors such as stage, tumor histology, and lymph node metastasis were identified in the analysis.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Genomic profiling of advanced cervical cancer to predict response to programmed death-1 inhibitor combination therapy: a secondary analysis of the CLAP trial

Xin Huang et al.

Summary: This study identified genetic alterations in PIK3CA, PTEN, ERBB3, and the PI3K/AKT pathway, as well as tumor mutational burden, as potential novel predictive biomarkers in patients with cervical cancer treated with PD-1 inhibitor combination therapy.

Beyond Sedlis-A novel histology-specific nomogram for predicting cervical cancer recurrence risk: An NRG/GOG ancillary analysis

Kimberly Levinson et al.

Summary: This study evaluated and compared risk factors for recurrence in squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and adenocarcinoma (AC) of the cervix, developing histology-specific nomograms to estimate the risk of recurrence. Results showed differences in recurrence risk factors between SCC and AC, emphasizing the importance of tailoring adjuvant treatment strategies based on histology-specific characteristics for cervical cancer patients.

Late Toxicity After Adjuvant Conventional Radiation Versus Image-Guided Intensity-Modulated Radiotherapy for Cervical Cancer (PARCER): A Randomized Controlled Trial

Supriya Chopra et al.

Summary: The PARCER study compared late toxicity after IG-IMRT with 3D-CRT in cervical cancer patients undergoing postoperative radiation, finding that IG-IMRT resulted in reduced gastrointestinal toxicity and improved patients' quality of life. However, there was no significant difference in disease outcomes between the two treatment methods.
