Do the Current Guidelines for Heart Failure Diagnosis and Treatment Fit with Clinical Complexity?

Paolo Severino et al.

Summary: Heart failure is a multisystemic disease that requires evaluation and treatment based on key parameters such as left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). The definition and therapy of HF need to be revised to move away from the old simplistic perspective.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparing a Multidisciplinary Intervention by a Geriatrician and a Cardiologist to Usual Care after a Heart Failure Hospitalization in Older Patients: The SENECOR Study

Marta Herrero-Torrus et al.

Summary: Follow-up by both a cardiologist and geriatrician after a hospitalization for heart failure in older patients was found to be superior in reducing all-cause hospitalization. The main reasons for hospitalization were heart failure and infection, with a mortality rate of 24.7%, with the majority of deaths caused by heart failure.

Quality of life in men and women with heart failure: association with outcome, and comparison between the Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire and the EuroQol 5 dimensions questionnaire

Summary: In patients with HFrEF, women reported significantly worse QoL than men at baseline, but both genders showed improvement in QoL at follow-up. The KCCQ-OS demonstrated the strongest independent association with outcome compared to the EQ-5D scores.

Quality of life in men and women with heart failure: association with outcome, and comparison between the Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire and the EuroQol 5 dimensions questionnaire

Alice Ravera et al.

Summary: This study compared quality of life measures derived from two widely used questionnaires in clinical trials, the KCCQ and EQ-5D, in men and women with heart failure. Women had significantly worse baseline QoL compared to men, but both genders showed improvement at follow-up. The KCCQ overall score (KCCQ-OS) showed the strongest association with mortality compared to EQ-5D scores.
