Bifactor model of cognition in schizophrenia: Evidence for general and specific abilities

Megan L. Becker et al.

Summary: This study used confirmatory factor analysis to examine the latent structure of cognitive abilities in schizophrenia, finding a bifactor model with a general cognitive factor and seven specific factors provided the best fit. The results suggest that cognitive deficits in schizophrenia may be best understood by separate general and specific contributions.

The difference of social cognitive and neurocognitive performance between patients with schizophrenia at different stages and influencing factors

Shengyun Chen et al.

Summary: The study found significant cognitive deficits in patients with schizophrenia, especially in first-episode patients compared to clinically stable patients, but emotion intelligence in clinically stable patients may be close to the level of healthy controls. BPRS total score, gender, group (first-episode vs clinically stable) and age may be independent contributors to social cognition, with the group playing an important role in general cognition and social cognition.
