Analysis of the Association Among Air Pollutants, Allergenic Pollen, and Respiratory Virus Infection of Children in Guri, Korea During Recent 5 Years

Young-Jin Choi et al.

Summary: This study investigated the correlation between the concentration of atmospheric substances and the pandemic potential of infectious diseases, as well as whether environmental deterioration increases viral infections. The results showed that seasonal co-exposure to air pollutants and allergenic pollens may enhance respiratory viral infection susceptibility in children. Therefore, reducing the concentrations of air pollutants and pollens may help prevent future epidemics.

Dynamics and predisposition of respiratory viral co-infections in children and adults

Y. Mandelia et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the dynamics of respiratory viral co-infections in children and adults, finding that co-infections are more common in children, especially those under the age of 5. Specific pairings of viral pathogens occurred at altered rates compared to predictions, suggesting potential direct or indirect interactions between specific viruses.
