Effect and Mechanism of Qingfei Paidu Decoction in the Management of Pulmonary Fibrosis and COVID-19

Yu Wu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the anti-pulmonary fibrosis activity of Qingfei Paidu decoction (QFPD) and its mode of action using in vivo and in vitro models and network pharmacology. QFPD effectively alleviates inflammation and collagen deposition, improves epithelial-mesenchymal transition, and inhibits M2 polarization of macrophages in pulmonary fibrosis. The main target of QFPD is SRC, and the key compound sitosterol regulates the EMT process and macrophage polarization by inhibiting SRC activation. QFPD may be valuable in preventing severe neocoronavirus disease in patients with pulmonary fibrosis caused by COVID-19.

Long non-coding RNAs: From disease code to drug role

Yuanyuan Chen et al.

Summary: Extensive studies have shown that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play crucial roles in physiological processes and are closely linked to various diseases. Using lncRNAs as biomarkers or intervention targets can provide new perspectives for disease diagnosis and treatment. Research is shifting towards utilizing lncRNAs as pharmacological targets, with a focus on preclinical research and clinical trial progress.

Therapeutic targets in lung tissue remodelling and fibrosis

Gang Liu et al.

Summary: Structural changes involving tissue remodelling and fibrosis are major features of many pulmonary diseases. Understanding the differences and similarities of remodelling can help identify common therapeutic targets and strategies for diseases like asthma, COPD, and IPF. Targeting transforming growth factor (TGF)-beta induced fibroblast activation may be a central pathway in the remodelling process.
