Cohort Analysis of the Association of Delirium Severity With Cerebrospinal Fluid Amyloid-Tau-Neurodegeneration Pathologies

Margaret Parker et al.

Summary: This study investigated the correlation between changes in delirium severity after surgery and changes in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarkers associated with Amyloid-Tau-Neurodegeneration (ATN) pathophysiology. The results showed that biomarkers of tau and neurodegeneration in the CSF were associated with delirium severity.

Association between plasma tau and postoperative delirium incidence and severity: a prospective observational study

Tyler Ballweg et al.

Summary: The study found that changes in tau levels were associated with the incidence and severity of postoperative delirium, and resolved over time along with delirium features. Clinical predictors such as age and prior stroke/transient ischemic attack impacted the changes in tau levels. The study suggests that tau could be a potential biomarker for predicting recovery from delirium.

Serum neurofilament light protein correlates with unfavorable clinical outcomes in hospitalized patients with COVID-19

Mercedes Prudencio et al.

Summary: Brain imaging studies of COVID-19 patients have shown evidence of neuroaxonal injury, and serum levels of neurofilament light chain (NFL) may predict the extent of neuronal damage and are associated with clinical outcomes. Lower NFL serum concentrations were observed in COVID-19 patients treated with remdesivir, suggesting that neuroaxonal injury should be considered as an outcome in acute pharmacotherapeutic trials for COVID-19.
