A vacuum ultraviolet laser with a submicrometer spot for spatially resolved photoemission spectroscopy

Summary: VUV lasers show great potential as light sources for spectroscopies when focused into a small beam spot, allowing investigation of mesoscopic materials and precise manufacture of nano-objects. A 177nm VUV laser with a record-small focal spot was constructed using a flat lens, and demonstrated for fluorescence spectroscopy study on microcrystals, revealing a new emission band. This laser system is ideal for spatially and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy.
