Intercellular nuclear migration in cryofixed tobacco male meiocytes

Sergey Mursalimov et al.

Summary: This study documented intercellular nuclear migration (INM) in cryofixed plant meiocytes for the first time, revealing that it can be observed regardless of whether a physical or chemical fixation method is employed with minimal damage from handling. The cytological picture of INM observed in cryofixed meiocytes did not noticeably differ from that obtained with chemically fixed cells.

Chromosome numbers and meiotic behavior in some species of Asteraceae from high altitudinal regions of Kashmir Himalayas

Younas Rasheed Tantray et al.

Summary: The study examined male meiotic studies in 64 species of composits from geographically isolated regions, revealing new chromosome numbers for several plants. Additionally, chromosomal counts for two species were reported for the first time globally, and four species from India were chromosomally analyzed for the first time. Meiotic abnormalities and the presence of B-chromosomes were observed in certain species for the first time in this study. Diploids and polyploids were the predominant cytotypes among the meiotically analyzed species.

Karyotype Reorganization in Wheat-Rye Hybrids Obtained via Unreduced Gametes: Is There a Limit to the Chromosome Number in Triticale?

Olga G. Silkova et al.

Summary: This study observed karyotype reorganization in three groups of wheat-rye hybrids based on FISH and C-banding. Aberrations including aneuploidy and translocations were detected, with some plants showing competitiveness in forming bivalents. However, meiotic restitution did not contribute to fertility or increased ploidy in subsequent generations.

Serial Block-Face Scanning Electron Microscopy Reveals That Intercellular Nuclear Migration Occurs in Most Normal Tobacco Male Meiocytes

Sergey Mursalimov et al.

Summary: The study using SBF-SEM revealed that intercellular nuclear migration (INM) occurs in 90-100% of tobacco meiocytes, suggesting it is a normal part of tobacco meiosis, yet the reason for such behavior of nuclei remains unclear. The results obtained highlight the potential of SBF-SEM in unveiling unexplored features of plant meiosis.

Cytomixis in angiosperms from Northwestern Argentina

Valeria de los A. Paez et al.

Summary: Cytomixis involves the migration of chromatin and/or organelles between proximate cells through intercellular channels. This study reports the presence of cytomixis in different species, genera, and families of angiosperms from northwestern Argentina, along with meiotic irregularities observed in these taxa. Additionally, this paper provides a list of 84 families of angiosperms where cytomixis has been reported, including some families and genera reported for the first time.

Morphogenesis of the sporoderm of Pollinia of Anoectochilus roxburghii

Yu Qing Chen et al.

Summary: During the development of Anoectochilus roxburghii pollinia, sporogenous cells differentiate to form the outline of the pollinia, and the nucleus and organelles penetrate the cell walls between MMCs. A sporopollenin exine forms on the surface of the pollinia, resulting in bicellular mature pollen with a vegetative cell and a generative cell.
