Hydroxyl Conducting Hydrogels Enable Low-Maintenance Commercially Sized Rechargeable Zn-MnO2 Batteries for Use in Solar Microgrids

Jungsang Cho et al.

Summary: This manuscript reports on the research results of using gel electrolytes as an alternative to liquid electrolytes in rechargeable Zn-MnO2 batteries. The optimized gel electrolyte showed higher capacity retention and the ability to limit overdischarge of Zn anodes. Commercial tests demonstrated exceptional cycle life for the gel electrolyte, and the batteries outperformed lead-acid batteries in solar off-grid applications.

A Replacement Reaction Enabled Interdigitated Metal/Solid Electrolyte Architecture for Battery Cycling at 20 mA cm-2 and 20 mAh cm-2

Zhao Cai et al.

Summary: Metal anodes are a promising choice for high energy density rechargeable batteries, but face challenges like volume variation and side reactions. A novel interdigitated metal/solid electrolyte composite electrode was fabricated using a replacement reaction, providing a stable host structure and preventing side reactions. This design demonstrated stable electrochemical performance and low overpotential, outperforming other reported metal electrodes.
