Beta-carotene is widely used in the food industry as an orange-red pigment, and its naturally produced form has many health benefits. Microbial synthesis of beta-carotene in the industry has the potential to offer lower production costs, reduced manpower, high yields, and environmentally-friendly production steps.
beta-carotene is being used in the food industry as an orange-red pigment for making various food products due to its valuable physical and biological properties. The use of naturally produced beta-carotene has many health benefits rather than the majorly used synthetic production method. Therefore, the use of microbial production for beta-carotene synthesis can be a promising future for the industries due to its low production cost, use of less manpower, high product yield and eco-friendly production steps. The present review provides an overview of various beta-carotene production methods and their future scope using green industrial production.
