FTO and PLAG1 Genes Expression and FTO Methylation Predict Changes in Circulating Levels of Adipokines and Gastrointestinal Peptides in Children

Wojciech Czogala et al.

Summary: This study revealed the correlation between FTO gene and hormones from adipose tissue and gastrointestinal tract, as well as the potential involvement of PLAG1 gene in adiposity pathogenesis. Further research is needed to clarify the exact molecular mechanisms.

Methylation and Expression of FTO and PLAG1 Genes in Childhood Obesity: Insight into Anthropometric Parameters and Glucose-Lipid Metabolism

Wojciech Czogala et al.

Summary: The study revealed that increased expression of the FTO gene is associated with obesity in children and insulin resistance, while higher expression of the PLAG1 gene is linked to a higher body fat percentage. This suggests that the FTO gene may play a significant role in childhood adiposity and glucose-lipid metabolism impairment.

The Insight into Insulin-Like Growth Factors and Insulin-Like Growth-Factor-Binding Proteins and Metabolic Profile in Pediatric Obesity

Wojciech Czogala et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the expression of IGF-axis genes and protein concentrations in obese children compared to healthy controls, finding higher expression of IGFBP7 and lower expression of IGF2 and IGFBP1 in obese children. In addition, IGFBP4 concentration was significantly higher in obese children while IGFBP3 showed a rising trend. The study also found correlations between IGFs and IGFBPs with obesity metabolic parameters.
