Assessment of native liver fibrosis using ultrasound elastography and serological fibrosis indices in children with biliary atresia after the Kasai procedure

Jisun Hwang et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the diagnostic accuracy of two different ultrasound elastography techniques and two serum markers in detecting native liver fibrosis in children with biliary atresia. The results showed that these methods had good to excellent diagnostic accuracy for different clinical categories, and the combined use of serum markers and ultrasound elastography yielded more accurate diagnoses compared to using serum markers alone.

Comparison of liver stiffness measurements by a 2D-shear wave technique and transient elastography: results from a European prospective multi-centre study

Maxime Ronot et al.

Summary: The study compared liver stiffness measurement provided by Canon 2D-shear wave elastography (2D-SWE) and transient elastography (TE), and found that there was good correlation between the two methods. However, 2D-SWE tended to underestimate higher stages of liver fibrosis while correctly classifying the majority of patients. It may be used in TE-derived algorithms to manage patients.

Comparative Utility of Transient and 2D Shear Wave Elastography for the Assessment of Liver Fibrosis in Clinical Practice

Dimitrios S. Karagiannakis et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the feasibility and correlation of liver stiffness measurements using 2D-shear wave elastography and transient elastography in patients with chronic liver disease. The results showed a strong correlation between the two methods, but differences in feasibility were observed in obese patients.

Summary: 2D shear-wave elastography (2D-SWE) is a non-invasive technique used in the evaluation of liver fibrosis, accurately differentiating clinically insignificant and significant liver fibrosis.

The usefulness of noninvasive liver stiffness assessment using shear-wave elastography for predicting liver fibrosis in children

Seunghyun Lee et al.

Summary: The study found that liver stiffness values on 2D-SWE can be influenced by both fibrosis and necroinflammatory grade, providing excellent diagnostic performance in different pediatric liver diseases. However, clinicians should be mindful of potential confounders, such as necroinflammatory activity or transaminase level, when performing 2D-SWE measurements for liver fibrosis staging.

Transient Elastography in Pediatric Liver Disease

Anna M. Banc-Husu et al.

Summary: Transient elastography is a valuable imaging technique for measuring liver stiffness in pediatric liver diseases. However, confounding factors can impact the accuracy of elastography measurements. Future studies will focus on correlating liver stiffness measured using transient elastography with disease severity.
