Excellent strength-ductility synergy of NiAl-based composites achieved by a 3-dimensional network structure

Zhen Lu et al.

Summary: A novel 3-dimensional network structure-reinforced NiAl-based composite was designed and prepared in this study, with a microstructure containing desirable distribution of the 3-dimensional network structure and the best mechanical properties obtained by controlling sintering temperature and time. The strengthening and toughening mechanisms were discussed in detail.

Analysis of hydrogen trapping behaviour in plastically deformed quenching and partitioning steel in relation to microstructure evolution by phase transformation

Hye-Jin Kim et al.

Summary: The relationship between plastic deformation and hydrogen transport behavior in quenching and partitioning (Q&P) steel was investigated. The evolution of microstructure and hydrogen diffusion and trapping characteristics were characterized using experimental methods. The major findings include the decrease in retained austenite fraction, the increase in geometrically necessary dislocation density, the decrease in hydrogen diffusivity, and the increase in solubility with increasing plastic deformation. The enhanced hydrogen trapping in the Q&P steel with plastic deformation was attributed to the increased dislocation density in ferrite and martensite. Experimental analysis using thermal desorption spectroscopy (TDS), electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD), and scanning transmission electron microscope (STEM) provided supporting evidence for hydrogen trapping characteristics and microstructure correlation.

Advanced tensile properties and strain rate sensitivity of titanium matrix composites reinforced with CaTiO3 particles

Jinheng Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, CaTiO3 particles were used as reinforcement to produce high-performance Ti matrix composites. The addition of CaTiO3 particles improved the strength of Ti while maintaining good ductility, with chemical stability in the matrix. The attractive mechanical properties of TMCs were attributed to the hardened grain boundaries and increased geometrically necessary dislocations caused by CaTiO3 particles.

Hot deformation behavior and microstructure evolution of NiAl-9HfO2 composite

Dekai Liu et al.

Summary: The hot deformation behavior and microstructure evolution of the new NiAl-9%HfO2 composite were studied through hot compression tests, leading to the establishment of an Arrhenius constitutive model and development of processing maps. The optimal hot deformation processing window was identified, and detailed discussions on microstructure evolution and softening mechanism were conducted. The study also found that samples deformed at 1350 degrees C with a strain rate of 0.03 s(-1) exhibited the highest performance, indicating improvements in yield strength and ultimate compression deformation compared to the original samples.

Decelerated grain growth kinetic and effectiveness of Hall-Petch relationship in a cold-rolled non-equiatomic high entropy alloy

M. H. Mohammad-Ebrahimi et al.

Summary: The study revealed that the grain growth kinetics of high entropy alloy is extremely low during high temperature annealing, mainly due to the solute drag like effect of whole-solute matrix and sluggish diffusion. Grain boundaries act as an effective barrier against dislocation motion, resulting in a balance between strength and ductility.

Unique hot deformation behavior and microstructure evolution of a dual FCC-phase CoCrCu1.2FeNi high entropy alloy

Jufu Jiang et al.

Summary: The hot deformation behavior and microstructure evolution of the CoCrCu1.2FeNi high entropy alloy composed of two FCC phases were investigated through hot compression tests and EBSD analysis. Two optimized hot working regions were found and asynchronous dynamic recrystallization was observed. The DRX mechanism shifted from DDRX to CDRX with increasing temperature, leading to the formation of hot working defects.
