Backward earthquake ruptures far ahead of fluid invasion: Insights from dynamic earthquake-sequence simulations

Summary: The study shows that under the influence of upward fluid invasion, seismic activity can migrate faster than predicted by conventional models. The recurrence of earthquakes and the directions of ruptures are controlled by the brittleness index.

Magma Reservoir and Magmatic Feeding System Beneath Hakone Volcano, Central Japan, Revealed by Highly Resolved Velocity Structure

Y. Yukutake et al.

Summary: This study used a dense seismic observation network to obtain a detailed picture of the magma reservoir beneath the felsic caldera of Hakone volcano in central Japan, revealing the presence of high- and low-velocity regions and a water-rich area. The results suggest the pathway of magma transport from the deep part of the volcano to the shallow reservoir.
