The role of photomineralization forCO2emissions in boreal lakes along a gradient of dissolved organic matter

Lina Allesson et al.

Summary: Through studying 70 Scandinavian lakes, this research found that photomineralization contributes relatively little to total CO2 evasion and remains stable across all lakes in relative contribution to in-lake CO2 production. Despite color variations, photomineralization estimates were similar across all lakes regardless of DOC concentrations, while DOC concentrations were positively related to CO2 efflux and in-lake CO2 production.

Permafrost-derived dissolved organic matter composition varies across permafrost end-members in the western Canadian Arctic

Erin N. MacDonald et al.

Summary: This study used ultrahigh-resolution mass spectrometry to characterize DOM derived from different permafrost end-member types in the western Canadian Arctic, revealing significant variation in DOM composition among the permafrost end-member types. The unique compound characteristics of DOM from various permafrost end-member types are primarily influenced by the parent materials of the permafrost.

Seasonal transformations of dissolved organic matter and organic phosphorus in a polymictic basin: Implications for redox-driven eutrophication

M. R. Kurek et al.

Summary: This study utilized FT-ICR MS to investigate the seasonal transformation and distribution of DOM and DOP in Missisquoi Bay from spring to winter. The DOM was predominantly composed of allochthonous compounds, while the DOP compositions were highly dissimilar, indicating potential compartmentalization within the water column. Short-term oxygen limitation experiments showed selective mobilization of aliphatic DOM and new DOP compounds.
