Preventing new episodes of bipolar disorder in adults: Systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

Anastasiya Nestsiarovich et al.

Summary: This study examined the efficacy of maintenance pharmacotherapy for bipolar disorder by analyzing data from high-quality randomized controlled trials. The findings suggest that psychotropic monotherapy, including lithium, mood stabilizing anticonvulsants, and second generation antipsychotics, is more effective in preventing new episodes of BD compared to placebo. Additionally, specific drugs such as aripiprazole, asenapine, lithium, olanzapine, quetiapine, and risperidone long-acting showed significantly lower risk of new BD episodes.

Augmentation strategies for treatment resistant major depression: A systematic review and network meta-analysis

Nicolas A. Nunez et al.

Summary: This study compared the efficacy and discontinuation of augmentation agents in adult patients with treatment-resistant depression through a systematic review and network meta-analyses. The findings suggest that certain adjunctive atypical antipsychotics, thyroid hormones, dopamine compounds, and lithium are superior in terms of efficacy. However, ziprasidone, mirtazapine, and cariprazine had higher discontinuation rates. Further research and head-to-head studies are needed to strengthen treatment options for treatment-resistant depression.

The efficacy of cognitive behavioral therapy-based interventions on patients with hypertension: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Yanni Li et al.

Summary: The study conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate the therapeutic effect of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)-based interventions on hypertension patients. The results showed that CBT interventions were effective in reducing blood pressure, cholesterol levels, anxiety, depression, and improving the quality of sleep in hypertension patients. Through subgroup analysis, it was found that long-term group-based CBT interventions were particularly beneficial for blood pressure management in this population.

Summary: Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis syndrome (TEN) are rare immune-mediated diseases. This study aimed to investigate pediatric cases of SJS and TEN, identifying associated medications. Antiepileptic drugs were the most common causative agents, followed by antibiotics, with newer generation agents such as lamotrigine, clobazam, and zonisamide also identified as causes.
