Glutaredoxin-2 and Sirtuin-3 deficiencies impair cardiac mitochondrial energetics but their effects are not additive

Neoma T. Boardman et al.

Summary: GRX2 and SIRT3 play important roles in controlling cardiac mitochondrial redox and oxidative processes. However, their combined absence does not exacerbate effects, consistent with the overall conclusion that they function together in the complex redox and antioxidant systems in the heart.

Toll-Like Receptor 4 Mediated Oxidized Low-Density Lipoprotein-Induced Foam Cell Formation in Vascular Smooth Muscle Cells via Src and Sirt1/3 Pathway

Zhongli Chen et al.

Summary: This study found that oxLDL induced the foam cell-like phenotype in VSMCs and led to lipid and ROS accumulation in a dose-dependent manner, with Tlr4 showing the strongest upregulation. Interfering with Tlr4 expression abolished phenotype alteration, lipid accumulation, and Src kinase activation induced by oxLDL, demonstrating Tlr4's critical role in foam cell formation via regulating Src kinase activation as well as Sirt1 and Sirt3 expression.
