Screening for Vitamin D Deficiency in Adults: US Preventive Services Task Force Recommendation Statement

Leila C. Kahwati et al.

Summary: Vitamin D plays a crucial role in calcium homeostasis and bone metabolism, but there is no consensus on the exact levels that represent deficiency. The US Preventive Services Task Force concludes that current evidence is insufficient to assess the balance of benefits and harms of screening for vitamin D deficiency in asymptomatic adults.

Serum vitamin D content is associated with semen parameters and serum testosterone levels in men

Inari M. Ciccone et al.

Summary: This cross-sectional study of 508 male patients found a positive correlation between serum vitamin D levels and semen quality, testosterone levels, and male reproductive potential. Specifically, higher levels of vitamin D3 were associated with better sperm concentration, motility, and morphology, as well as increased total testosterone levels.

Relationship of Vitamin D status with testosterone levels: a systematic review and meta-analysis

S. D'Andrea et al.

Summary: Despite inconclusive results in epidemiological studies, a systematic review and meta-analysis of case-control studies revealed a slight positive association between vitamin D levels and total testosterone levels in patients with vitamin D deficiency. This association was more pronounced in studies focusing on patients with frailty states. The findings suggest that both hypovitaminosis D and androgen deficiency could serve as markers of poor health status.
