Precision Methylome and In Vivo Methylation Kinetics Characterization of Klebsiella pneumoniae

Jing Fu et al.

Summary: The study systematically investigated the methylation features of Klebsiella pneumoniae and identified 15 methylation motifs. The distribution patterns of these motifs in the genome were analyzed and the methylation dynamics were characterized at single-base resolution. The findings provide useful insights into the epigenetic regulation of K. pneumoniae and other bacterial species.

The Role of Integrative and Conjugative Elements in Antibiotic Resistance Evolution

Joao Botelho et al.

Summary: Mobile genetic elements (MGEs) play a key role in the spread of antibiotic resistance, with the coevolution between bacteria and MGEs shaping their transfer and stability. Despite the abundance of ICEs, the dynamics of ICE-bacterium coevolution remain largely unexplored. Both conjugative plasmids and ICEs are transferred via type IV secretion systems, but the immunity to segregational loss in ICEs results in different evolutionary paths for ICE-bacterium associations compared to plasmid-bacterium associations.

Spotlight on a novel bactericidal mechanism and a novel SXT/R391-like integrative and conjugative element, carrying multiple antibiotic resistance genes, in Pseudoalteromonas flavipulchra strain CDM8

Hailiang Wang et al.

Summary: Many Pseudoalteromonas strains can produce bioactive compounds with antimicrobial activities. This study focused on a probiotic candidate P.flavipulchra CDM8 to reveal its novel antibacterial mechanism and risks for antibiotic resistance dissemination. Strain CDM8 displayed broad antibacterial activities, formed floating biofilm, and showed multi-antibiotic resistance, potentially due to the vesicle/pilus-like structures on its outer surface.

The Tn7-Based Genomic Integration Is Dependent on an attTn7 Box in the glms Gene and Is Site-Specific With Monocopy in Ralstonia solanacearum Species Complex

Yong Zhang et al.

Summary: The Tn7-based genomic integration system allows direct insertion of foreign gene elements downstream of glms in many bacteria species. The conservation of a 30-bp motif in the glms gene, known as the attTn7 box, is crucial for this integration process. The integration is site-specific and fixed at a certain location downstream of glms, resulting in better phenotype restoration in mutants compared to plasmid-based complementation in monocopy chromosome of the RSSC.

Chromosomal Integration of Huge and Complex bla NDM-Carrying Genetic Elements in Enterobacteriaceae

Xinhua Luo et al.

Summary: In this study, a detailed genetic dissection of the bla (NDM)-carrying genetic elements and their related mobile genetic elements in Enterobacteriaceae revealed the presence of numerous resistance genes and complex structures. The analysis identified eight novel mobile elements, including ICEs, IMEs, composite transposons, and an integron.
