Synthesis and biological activity of aza and deaza analogues of purine nucleosides

Elena S. Matyugina et al.

Summary: Analogues and derivatives of nucleic acid components have been utilized as essential drugs in the medical field, with some showing significant anticancer and antiviral properties. The synthesis and evaluation of aza and deazapurine nucleoside analogues have been a focus of interest for researchers for the past forty years, with studies analyzing the structure-activity relationships and successful approaches to their design. Various methods of chemical and enzymatic synthesis of these compounds have been compared in this review.
