Testing solution models for phase equilibrium (forward) modeling of partial melting experiments

Summary: This study compares four sets of solution models for calculating isochemical phase diagram sections of partial melting experiments, with the model by Tajcmanova et al. (2009) showing better results for most parameters. It is suggested that this biotite model should be used for phase equilibrium modeling in the Ti-Mn-Na-Ca-K-Fe-Mg-Al-Si-H-O system.

Summary: Partial melting is the process that forms juvenile crust from the mantle, which eventually becomes the stable continents where we reside. This irreversible differentiation occurs primarily through the movement of silica-rich melts from deeper sources to shallower regions, where they crystallize as granite. The focus is on intracrustal partial melting in convergent-margin settings and anatexis during the exhumation of deeply-subducted continental crust.
