Toward high-performance SPAD arrays for space-based atmosphere and ocean profiling LiDARs

Giulia Acconcia et al.

Summary: Space-based LiDAR sensors have advanced our understanding of global water and carbon cycles by providing valuable insights into aerosol, cloud, and phytoplankton distribution in Earth's atmosphere and ocean. Recent progress in high-performance SPAD arrays offers the potential for improved vertical structure capture with reduced laser power and telescope size for sensor-level savings.

Polarization resolving and imaging with a single-photon sensitive superconducting nanowire array

Xing-Qu Sun et al.

Summary: Superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors (SNSPDs) have been widely studied for their outstanding performance in detecting visible and near-infrared single photons. This research introduces a prototype of a polarimeter based on a four-pixel superconducting nanowire array, capable of resolving the polarization state of linearly polarized light at the single-photon level. The detector array design shows high detection efficiency and timing jitter, paving the way for the development of a single-photon sensitive, fast, and large-scale integrated polarization polarimeter or imager.

High-efficient and high-accurate integrated division-of-time polarimeter

Wei Liu et al.

Summary: The proposed integrated division-of-time polarimeter (DOTP) improves measuring efficiency and accuracy by simultaneously measuring a pair of orthogonal polarization states. Optimization of the analysis matrix reduces the influence of photodetector noise, leading to improved performance compared to conventional designs.
