The aim of this research is to analyze the stability of micro milling process using the p-leader multifractal method. Two indicators are designed based on the p-leader multifractal spectrum to identify the stable, weak-chatter, and chatter occurrence. The analysis of experimental data and numerical simulation verifies the effectiveness of the p-leader multifractal method and the proposed indicators.
The efficient stability analysis is beneficial to improving stability of processing and chatter suppression. The p-leader multifractal method is an improvement of the traditional fractal method, which can clearly reflect the geometric structure characteristics of vibration signal. The aim of this research is to analysis the stability of micro milling process by using p-leader multifractal method. The main contribution in this work is that two indicators are designed based on the p-leader multifractal spectrum to identify the stable, weak-chatter and chatter occurrence. The experimental data of the micro milling of AISI 1040 and numerical simulation were analyzed to verify the p-leader multifractal method and the proposed indicators. The analysis results show that the proposed indicators can be effectively used to identify the stable, weak-chatter and chatter in the milling process.
