Solid-State NMR-Driven Crystal Structure Prediction of Molecular Crystals: The Case of Mebendazole

Federica Bravetti et al.

Summary: CSP-NMRX is a powerful method for crystal structure prediction that utilizes NMR information to reduce computational resources and improve efficiency. It was successfully applied to predict the crystal packing of three known phases of mebendazole, demonstrating its effectiveness in utilizing NMR data for structure determination.

Solid-State Structural Properties of Alloxazine Determined from Powder XRD Data in Conjunction with DFT-D Calculations and Solid-State NMR Spectroscopy: Unraveling the Tautomeric Identity and Pathways for Tautomeric Interconversion

Christopher J. H. Smalley et al.

Summary: We report the solid-state structural properties and tautomeric interconversion of alloxazine, a tricyclic ring system found in biologically important molecules. The crystal structures containing both alloxazine and isoalloxazine tautomers were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) and high-resolution solid-state N-15 NMR. Computational calculations were also performed to determine the relative energies and mechanisms of tautomeric interconversion. The results show that the alloxazine tautomer is favored in the crystal structure, with over 99.9% of the molecules existing in this form at ambient temperature.

Structure determination from unindexed powder data from scratch by a global optimization approach using pattern comparison based on cross-correlation functions

Stefan Habermehl et al.

Summary: A method of ab initio crystal structure determination from powder diffraction data for organic and metal-organic compounds has been developed. This method does not require prior indexing of the powder pattern and can solve structures from scratch using a global fit to the powder data. It is particularly useful for analyzing "problematic" powder patterns, especially those with low crystallinity.

Comparison and evaluation of pair distribution functions, using a similarity measure based on cross-correlation functions

Stefan Habermehl et al.

Summary: The PDF is sensitive to small deviations in structure, leading to significant differences in signal shifts between PDFs. The comparison based on pointwise differences may not accurately reflect agreement, but visual inspection can reveal good matches. A similarity measure based on cross-correlation functions is introduced for quantifying agreement in different PDFs.

Summary: A new method for the ab initio crystal structure determination of organic compounds using a fit to the pair distribution function (PDF) has been developed. The method, called 'PDF-Global-Fit', allows for the determination of crystal structures without prior knowledge of lattice parameters and space group, and has been successfully demonstrated with barbituric acid form IV.

Summary: Copper perchlorophthalocyanine, a commercially important green pigment, was successfully characterized in this study using a special vacuum sublimation technique to obtain micron-sized crystals. The crystal structure was determined and validated through various methods, including 3D electron diffraction data collection and many-body dispersion density functional theory calculations.
