Prussian Blue Nanozyme as a Pyroptosis Inhibitor Alleviates Neurodegeneration

Xinxin Ma et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that Prussian blue nanozyme (PBzyme) can act as a pyroptosis inhibitor to alleviate neurodegeneration in mouse and cell models of Parkinson's disease. By scavenging reactive oxygen species, inhibiting activation of the inflammasome, and reducing the production of inflammatory factors, PBzyme exerts neuroprotective effects.

Novel Targets and Therapeutic Strategies to Protect Against Hepatic Ischemia Reperfusion Injury

Xin-li Mao et al.

Summary: Hepatic ischemia reperfusion injury (IRI) is a major complication caused by various clinical situations, and the exact mechanisms and therapeutic targets are yet to be clarified. Activation of PPAR gamma, FAM3A, and non-coding RNAs may have a protective effect against hepatic IRI, but further research is needed.

Neutrophil-like Cell-Membrane-Coated Nanozyme Therapy for Ischemic Brain Damage and Long-Term Neurological Functional Recovery

Lishuai Feng et al.

Summary: This study introduces a neutrophil-like cell-membrane-coated mesoporous Prussian blue nanozyme, which improves the delivery of the nanozyme to the damaged brain for noninvasive active-targeting therapy in ischemic stroke. The long-term therapeutic efficacy of this nanozyme in ischemic stroke is demonstrated, with a detailed mechanism involving uptake by microglia leading to beneficial effects like microglia polarization, reduced recruitment of neutrophils, decreased neuron apoptosis, and neural cell proliferation. This strategy offers an approach for nanozyme therapy in brain diseases.

Hemorheological and Microcirculatory Factors in Liver Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury-An Update on Pathophysiology, Molecular Mechanisms and Protective Strategies

Norbert Nemeth et al.

Summary: Hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury is a complex phenomenon with multiple factors involved, and its pathomechanism has not been fully elucidated despite over thirty years of research. Blood flow properties and hemorheological factors play important roles in tissue perfusion and endothelial cell function, and interventions such as antioxidants, anti-inflammatory agents, and organ preservation techniques may provide protection against hepatic IRI.

Drug delivery nanosystems targeted to hepatic ischemia and reperfusion injury

Margarida Ferreira-Silva et al.

Summary: Hepatic ischemia and reperfusion injury (IRI) is an acute inflammatory process for which there is currently no effective treatment in the clinic. Drug delivery nanosystems have shown promise in providing a new approach to therapy, with the ability to target specific compounds and enhance treatment efficacy through passive or active targeting.

New Insights in Mechanisms and Therapeutics for Short- and Long-Term Impacts of Hepatic Ischemia Reperfusion Injury Post Liver Transplantation

Hui Liu et al.

Summary: Liver transplantation is effective for end-stage liver disease patients, but may lead to hepatic ischemia reperfusion injury (IRI) causing acute inflammation, graft dysfunction, acute rejection, chronic rejection, cancer recurrence, and fibrogenesis. Understanding the mechanisms of inflammation and immune activation during IRI, as well as developing therapeutic strategies, is crucial for improving transplant outcomes.

How Machine Perfusion Ameliorates Hepatic Ischaemia Reperfusion Injury

George Clarke et al.

Summary: The increasing use of extended criteria donors (ECDs) is a result of the growing disparity between the number of patients listed for transplantation and the availability of suitable organs. ECDs are at higher risk of developing ischaemia reperfusion injury, but the utilization of machine perfusion has proven to be a significant advancement in organ preservation and transplantation success. This review focuses on exploring how machine perfusion can improve the graft's response to ischaemia reperfusion injury.

Prussian blue nanozyme-mediated nanoscavenger ameliorates acute pancreatitis via inhibiting TLRs/NF-κB signaling pathway

Xue Xie et al.

Summary: The study found that PBzyme has potential anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory effects in the prophylactic treatment of AP, possibly involving inhibition of signaling pathways and scavenging reactive oxygen species. This provides a foundation for the clinical application of PBzyme in the preventive treatment of AP.
