Novel hybrid polyester-polyacrylate hydrogels enriched with platelet-derived growth factor for chondrogenic differentiation of adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells in vitro

Fereshteh Valipour et al.

Summary: The study successfully created a new biodegradable PCL-P (HEMA-NIPAAm) thermosensitive hydrogel scaffold and demonstrated its effectiveness in promoting chondrogenic differentiation of adipose-derived stem cells when combined with PDGF-BB. The results showed that the S-2 group exhibited good physical properties and swelling rate, with the scaffold having the potential to gradually release PDGF-BB. Cell culture experiments with human adipose-derived stem cells on the scaffold surface confirmed that PDGF-BB could promote cell attachment and proliferation.

An overview of PLGA in-situ forming implants based on solvent exchange technique: effect of formulation components and characterization

Tarek Metwally Ibrahim et al.

Summary: Due to low oral bioavailability of certain drugs, there is growing interest in parenteral administration to directly target drug absorption into the blood. Injectable in-situ forming implants (ISFIs) are gaining popularity compared to other sustained release systems, offering easier production, acceptable administration routes, reduced dosing frequency, and improved patient compliance. The use of biodegradable polymers like PLGA in ISFI systems allows for extended drug delivery through solvent exchange mechanisms, with drug release characterized by initial burst, diffusion processes, and polymeric degradation. Suitable solvent selection and consideration of PLGA hydrophobicity and molecular weights are crucial for optimizing drug release in ISFIs.
