Universality class change from Mean-Field to 3D-Heisenberg in magnetocaloric compounds SmNi3_xFex

H. Jaballah et al.

Summary: This study reports the universality class change from Mean-Field to 3D-Heisenberg in magnetocaloric compounds SmNi3_xFex. The universal classes were identified using the Modified Arrott plot, Kouvel-Fisher plot, and critical isotherm technique. The calculated critical exponents were confirmed and it was found that the isotherm M(H) curves in the paramagnetic state and ferromagnetic state fall into two separate universal branches.

The effect of the Mo addition on the magnetic properties and phase constituents of the Ce-(FeCo)-B ribbons

M. Grigoras et al.

Summary: The addition of molybdenum (Mo) and subsequent annealing in CeFeB-based ribbons improves the magnetic properties, increasing coercivity and energy density. Molybdenum acts as a grain growth inhibitor and reduces non-magnetic phases, leading to enhanced magnetic performance. Ribbons with 1.0 at% Mo exhibit optimal magnetic properties for potential use in permanent magnets.

Crystal structure of intermetallic compound Y5Co19 and its hydride phases

Kenji Iwase et al.

Summary: Y-Co intermetallic compounds and their hydrides were investigated for magnetic materials, where the existence of Y5Co19 was established in the phase diagrams. The crystal structure of Y5Co19 was determined to be Ce5Co19-type, with a hydrogen capacity of 0.63 H/M and two plateaus observed in the P-C isotherm. Two hydride phases, Y5Co19H3.8 and Y5Co19H14.9, were discovered with structural models similar to the original alloy.

Critical behavior in hexagonal Y2Fe17: magnetic interaction crossover from 3D to 2D Ising model

Jiyu Fan et al.

Summary: The critical behavior of single phase Y2Fe17 melt-spun ribbons with Th2Fe17-type crystal structure was studied around the transition temperature (T-C). The alloy undergoes a second-order ferromagnetic-paramagnetic phase transition at T-C = 301 K, with critical exponents beta = 0.226, gamma = 1.296, and delta = 6.804. The universality class of the critical phenomenon in the Y2Fe17 ribbons was explained using renormalization group theory approach, and first-principles calculations qualitatively explained the experimental results, confirming the strong correlation between lattice atoms and critical behavior in the magnetic intermetallic Y2Fe17.
