Measuring the α-particle charge radius with muonic helium-4 ions

Julian J. Krauth et al.

Summary: The energy levels of hydrogen-like atomic systems can be calculated with great precision, which can be used to study nuclear structure. Through measuring the root-mean-square charge radius of the proton and comparing it with the value from electron scattering, it provides a benchmark for few-nucleon theories, lattice quantum chromodynamics, and electron scattering. The agreement also constrains several beyond-standard-model theories proposed to explain the proton-radius puzzle, establishing spectroscopy of light muonic atoms and ions as a precise tool for studies of nuclear properties.

Theoretical study on residual infrared absorption of Ti:sapphire laser crystals

Qiaorui Gong et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigates the origin of residual infrared absorption in Ti:sapphire crystal using first principles method. Different ion pair models were defined and constructed to explain the residual infrared absorption, with some models showing consistent near-infrared absorption spectra with experimental results. The findings suggest that specific ion pair models contribute significantly to the residual infrared absorption of Ti:sapphire crystal.

Low-threshold-intensity 3.8-W continuous-wave Ti:Sapphire oscillator directly pumped with green diodes

Zhang-Wang Miao et al.

Summary: A simple model was proposed to calculate the average outputs for fiber-coupled green laser-diode pump beam, and a direct-pumping continuous-wave Ti:Sapphire laser with green diodes achieved an optimized output. This work demonstrated the highest output reported so far with high optical/optical conversion efficiency and slope efficiency.

Hypersonic nozzle for laser-spectroscopy studies at 17 K characterized by resonance-ionization-spectroscopy-based flow mapping

R. Ferrer et al.

Summary: The in-gas-jet laser spectroscopy method aims to analyze atomic hyperfine structures and determine fundamental nuclear properties of short-lived isotopes by using a superior convergent-divergent hypersonic nozzle. A novel flow mapping technique based on resonance ionization spectroscopy has been employed to characterize the local flow properties of an argon gas jet, revealing a highly collimated atomic jet at a uniform low temperature. Results show an unprecedented spectral resolution and efficiency for laser spectroscopy experiments on heavy-exotic nuclei.
