Study of Terahertz Wave Propagation in Realistic Plasma Sheath for the Whole Reentry Process

Wenchong Ouyang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the propagation characteristics of THz waves in the realistic plasma sheath during aircraft reentry, and proposes two THz communication schemes to address communication blackout issues. One solution involves using electromagnetic waves with frequencies above 0.35 THz for communication, while the other suggests installing antennas near the bottom of the vehicle with wave frequencies above 0.12 THz.

Effects of pulsed magnetic field on density reduction of high flow velocity plasma sheath

Jiahao Xu et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a three-dimensional model to study the impact of pulsed magnetic field on the density distribution of high flow velocity plasma sheath. The simulation results reveal that pulsed magnetic field can effectively reduce plasma density and provide useful information for mitigating communication blackout in hypersonic vehicles. Additionally, the study analyzes the time evolution characteristics of plasma density and the effect of self-electric field on plasma density distribution.

Advanced model for the interaction of a Ti plume produced by a ns-pulsed laser in a nitrogen environment

Gianpiero Colonna et al.

Summary: A numerical model was used to investigate the expansion of a titanium plume evaporated by a ns laser pulse and expanding in a nitrogen environment, focusing on the role of molecular vibration in plasma evolution. The calculated vibrational distributions showed significant differences from the Boltzmann distribution, indicating overpopulated tails. Large differences with results obtained from macroscopic models were predicted.

EHF Wave Propagation in the Plasma Sheath Enveloping Sharp-Coned Hypersonic Vehicle

Rongxin Tang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the characteristics of EHF wave propagation in the plasma sheath enveloping sharp-coned hypersonic vehicles, finding differences in electron density and thickness compared to blunt-coned plasma sheaths. Reflection plays a significant role in energy loss in sharp-coned plasma sheaths, which is different from blunt-coned plasma sheaths.

Analysis of transmission characteristics of THz waves magnetized at different angles in non-uniform magnetized plasma

Li Hao et al.

Summary: This article explores the blackout problem encountered during vehicle reentry and highlights the importance of terahertz wave in solving this issue. By adjusting various parameters, the transmission performance of terahertz wave in the plasma sheath can be modified, with left-hand polarized terahertz wave showing better transmission performance than right-hand polarized terahertz wave.
