Impact of the Samples' Surface State on the Glow Discharge Stability in the Metals' Treatment and Welding Processes

Maksym Bolotov et al.

Summary: The low temperature plasma of glow discharge is commonly used as a heating source in welding and surface treatment of metals. Analysis of the instabilities in glow discharge has shown that the physicochemical characteristics of the cathode surface play a significant role in its transition into electric arc, affecting the stability of the process. The study on the influence of cathode macro- and micro relief on the stable existence of glow discharge has demonstrated that surface pre-treatment can greatly impact the pressure range of sustainable glow discharge.

Dual-Frequency Microwave Plasma Source Based on Microwave Coaxial Transmission Line

Chi Chen et al.

Summary: This paper presents a dual-frequency microwave plasma source based on a coaxial transmission line for flexible control of plasma characteristics. Experimental results show that plasma electron density and electron temperature can be adjusted by feeding in different frequencies, improving the operation frequency of dual-frequency microwave plasma sources.

Influence of Ag Electrodes Asymmetry Arrangement on Their Erosion Wear and Nanoparticle Synthesis in Spark Discharge

Kirill Khabarov et al.

Summary: The influence of electrode asymmetry on nanoparticle synthesis in spark discharge was studied, showing significant impact on particle size, agglomeration, concentration, and energy efficiency. Increasing asymmetry led to higher production rates and efficiency, with a notable portion of particles exceeding 40 nm. Transfer of nanoparticles during discharge led to electroerosive instability and electrode protrusion formation.

Vortex Breakdown Control by the Plasma Swirl Injector

Gang Li et al.

Summary: This study proposed the concept of using plasma to control vortex breakdown, and the effect of plasma actuation on controlling the onset and development of vortex breakdown was captured by particle image velocimetry. The results showed that by varying the strength of plasma actuation, the location and size of the vortex breakdown region could be effectively controlled.
