On the transformation between micro-concave and micro-convex in nanosecond laser ablation of a Zr-based metallic glass

Yongfeng Qian et al.

Summary: This study reports the transformation in surface microstructure from micro-concave to micro-convex and then to micro-concave again during laser ablation of Zr-based metallic glass. The experimental results show that such transformation is strongly influenced by the peak laser power intensity and number of laser pulses. Coupling effects of the recoil pressure and Marangoni flow were proposed to explain the observed transformation.
