A modelling framework to design an evacuation support system for healthcare infrastructures in response to major flood events

Maziar Yazdani et al.

Summary: Climate changes contribute to the increasing frequency and severity of extreme weather events such as floods. Well-functioning hospitals play a critical role in communities' ability to withstand the adverse health impacts of such events. However, many hospitals are not designed with consideration of extreme weather risks and are located in flood-prone areas, raising concerns about their capability to meet community healthcare needs during disasters. This paper addresses the research gap in hospital evacuation planning and proposes a new modeling framework to enhance community resilience to growing flood risks caused by climate change.
