Eye surface infrared thermography usefulness as a noninvasive method of measuring stress response in sheep during shearing: Correlations with serum cortisol and rectal temperature values

Francesca Arfuso et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess acute stress response in sheep undergoing shearing procedure using eye temperature assessment by infrared thermography (IRT). The findings suggest that the medial canthus is the most suitable region for eye temperature measurement to evaluate stress response in animals. Moreover, the study highlights the usefulness of IRT as an immediate and noninvasive physiological measure for assessing stress response in sheep.

Thermographic ocular temperature correlated with rectal temperature in cats

C. Giannetto et al.

Summary: Body temperature is an important indicator of animal health. Rectal thermometry is commonly used in veterinary medicine, but it can be stressful for some animals, particularly cats. Infrared thermal imaging is a less stressful alternative method that has been used in various medical fields for diagnosis and treatment.

Impact of Ocular Surface Temperature on Tear Characteristics: Current Insights

Ankit M. Shah et al.

Summary: Infrared thermographic assessment of ocular surface temperature is a non-invasive and quick method to evaluate the ocular surface. Research has shown that OST is related to tear film parameters and dry eye disease, with OST decreasing at a faster rate in individuals with DED. This suggests that OST may be a useful screening tool for DED in combination with established point-of-care tests.
