Nonlinear Optical Oxythiophosphate Approaching the Good Balance with Wide Ultraviolet Transparency, Strong Second Harmonic Effect, and Large Birefringence

Summary: In this study, it was proposed that transitioning the NLO motif structure from traditional phosphates to oxythiophosphates enhances birefringence and second harmonic generation while maintaining UV transparency. Through first-principles calculations and experimental measurements, it was confirmed that the oxythiophosphate exhibits better UV NLO performance than the well-known NLO phosphate KH2PO4, including wide UV transparency, strong SHG effect, and large birefringence with a shorter output wavelength.

Mg2In3Si2P7: A Quaternary Diamond-like Phosphide Infrared Nonlinear Optical Material Derived from ZnGeP2

Summary: By applying a rigidity-flexibility coupling strategy, a quaternary diamond-like phosphide, Mg2In3Si2P7, was designed and synthesized successfully, achieving the rare coexistence of giant second-harmonic generation, suitable band gap, moderate birefringence, and wide IR transparent range. This work not only opens a new avenue for designing advanced infrared nonlinear optical materials but also may spur more explorations on quaternary diamond-like pnictides.

The Phosphidosilicates SrSi7P10 and BaSi7P10

Summary: The new phosphidosilicates SrSi7P10 and BaSi7P10 were synthesized and their crystal structures determined. They exhibit a new triclinic structure type with vertex sharing SiP4 tetrahedra and alkaline earth cations residing in cuboctahedral voids. Both compounds are classified as semiconductors with small indirect bandgaps of 1.1 eV.
