Processing Map Development through Elaborating Phenomenological and Physical Constitutive Based Models

This study was conducted to develop a new method for constructing the processing maps. Using hot compression testing method at various temperature and strain rates, the experimental flow stress data were employed to build the activation energy map, strain rate sensitivity map, and finally the processing maps. In an alternative approach, the extracted constitutive models were utilized to develop the power efficiency and instability maps. It is found that the sinh-based model would predict the unsafe regions of hot working conditions in a way more consistent with the experimental based prediction one in contrast with optimistic predictions of the Zerilli-Armstrong processing maps. All findings were further verified through examination of the obtained thermomechanically processed microstructures.
