The Furongian to Lower Ordovician Alum Shale Formation in conventional and unconventional petroleum systems in the Baltic Basin-A review

Hans-Martin Schulz et al.

Summary: The Alum Shale Formation in northwestern Europe is proven to be a source rock for conventional oil and also has potential for shale oil and gas. It has a strong aromatic character due to uranium irradiation, impacting petroleum generation and retention. The formation includes a mixed shale oil/biogenic gas play and is an attractive gas shale candidate for gas generation and retention.

General geology and geochemistry of the Lokpanta Formation oil shale, Nigeria

Sylvester Ofili et al.

Summary: A detailed study on the Lokpanta oil shale in Nigeria revealed its mineralogical and geochemical characteristics, indicating deposition in an anoxic environment with enrichments in trace elements. The shale also showed evidence of deposition in an active continental margin and transitional marine environment. Comparisons with the Estonian graptolite argillite provided further insights into its geological history.
