Elemental Concentrations of Major and Trace Elements in the Spring Waters of the Arctic Region of Russia

Summary: The paper identifies the chemical composition of natural springs near major cities in the Murmansk region in Russia through titration, potentiometry, and mass spectrometry analysis. The study reveals that some hazardous pollutants in spring water exceed Russian hygienic limits. Only half of the tested natural water sources meet drinking water standards. Authigenic Minerals of the Derbent and South Caspian Basins (Caspian Sea): Features of Forms, Distribution and Genesis under Conditions of Hydrogen Sulfide Contamination

Summary: This study presents the results of complex lithological, mineralogical, and geochemical studies of bottom sediments in hydrogen sulfide contaminated areas of the deep-water basins of the Caspian Sea. Various authigenic minerals have been identified and assessed in terms of their distribution in the sediments, with carbonates and sulfates being predominant. Differences in the composition and distribution of authigenic mineral associations have been established between the uppermost sediments (0-3 cm interval) and underlying sediments. The aridity of the climate in the South Caspian region is considered the main factor determining these differences.

Adsorption of p-Arsanilic Acid on Iron (Hydr)oxides and Its Implications for Contamination in Soils

Feasibility of a Chemical Washing Method for Treating Soil Enriched with Fluorine Derived from Mica

Summary: The study found that using chemical washing methods may not be effective for soils containing chemically stable forms of fluorine, with only a maximum washing efficiency of 6.2% achieved for total fluorine present in soil. The presence of fluorine in a chemically stable form (residual fraction) due to mica minerals may contribute to the inefficiency of chemical washing for remediation in such cases. In these situations, other physical-based remediation technologies or risk management approaches may be more suitable.

Reactive, Sparingly Soluble Calcined Magnesia, Tailor-Made as the Reactive Material for Heavy Metal Removal from Contaminated Groundwater Using Permeable Reactive Barrier

Summary: A laboratory method was designed and verified for testing alkaline, magnesite-based reactive materials in the removal of heavy metals from contaminated groundwater. Caustic calcined magnesia (CCM) showed high reactivity and low solubility in removing Cu2+, Zn2+, Ni2+, and Mn2+ cations from mixed aqueous solutions. The optimal condition for CCM preparation was found to be calcination at 750 degrees C for 3 hours, achieving full heavy metal removal with lower energy consumption.

Analysis of Spatial Variability of River Bottom Sediment Pollution with Heavy Metals and Assessment of Potential Ecological Hazard for the Warta River, Poland

Describing Phosphorus Sorption Processes on Volcanic Soil in the Presence of Copper or Silver Engineered Nanoparticles

Cu-0 ENPs had lower phosphorus desorption rates compared to Ag-0 ENPs. Overall, the incorporation of ENPs into Andisols resulted in increased phosphorus retention, which could potentially impact agricultural crop production.

Comprehending the Causes of Presence of Copper and Common Heavy Metals in Sediments of Irrigation Canals in Taiwan
