A crystal plasticity FE study of macro- and micro-subdivision in aluminium single crystals {001}<110> multi-pass rolled to a high reduction

Hui Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the substructure formation in a multi-pass rolled aluminium single crystal using crystal plasticity finite element model, and validated the predictions with experimental observations at both macro- and micro-scale. The development of matrix bands, stability of crystal orientations, and the correlation between slip activity, shear strain and crystal rotation were found to be crucial in the substructure formation process. The modelling approach using Submodels proved to be effective in predicting microstructure formation by increasing mesh resolution in smaller regions of interest.

Micromechanical simulations of additively manufactured aluminum alloys

V Romanova et al.

Summary: This study presents a computational approach to simulate the deformation response of additively manufactured aluminum alloys, generating a three-dimensional microstructure with the grain geometry typical for aluminum alloys produced by selective laser melting. The grain behavior is described using crystal plasticity and a phenomenological equation, providing a microstructure-based constitutive model for simulations of quasistatic tension.

Effects of the grain shape and crystallographic texture on the grain-scale mechanical behavior of additively manufactured aluminum alloys

V Romanova et al.

Summary: The study numerically investigates the grain shape and texture effects in aluminum alloys manufactured by selective laser melting. Crystal plasticity finite element simulations reveal a substantial difference in microscale stress and strain fields, with cube-textured columnar grains reducing stress concentration and promoting more homogenous stress-strain distributions.

A Numerical Study of the Contribution of Different Slip Systems to the Deformation Response of Polycrystalline Titanium

E. S. Emelianova et al.

Summary: The deformation behavior of polycrystalline titanium was studied through numerical simulations in micromechanical and crystal plasticity frameworks. The developed model was verified by calculating the elastic-plastic deformation of titanium single crystals with different orientations, and it was used to investigate the contribution of different slip systems to the deformation response of a polycrystal.
