Measurements of spectral emissivity, reflectance and transmittance at high temperatures using laser heating and auxiliary light source

Jiazhou Li et al.

Summary: A multi-wavelength measurement method is introduced to determine the radiation properties of semi-transparent materials, avoiding the strong dependence on accurate temperature measurements or emissivity model. Experimental results show that the radiation properties of samples vary at different temperatures, and the upper limit of sample temperature can be extended with the increase of laser power. The research work provides a useful reference for measuring the high-temperature radiation properties of semi-transparent materials.

Effect of Mechanical Properties of Rail and Wheel on Wear and Rolling Contact Fatigue

Jung-Won Seo et al.

Summary: Rolling contact fatigue and wear are significant issues for the wheel and rail. The mechanical properties and fatigue characteristics of the wheel and rail have a profound impact on wear and contact fatigue. Factors such as crack growth rate and hardness play an important role in determining contact fatigue and wear. Evaluating the wear resistance involves considering factors such as hardness ratio and total hardness. Additionally, the study found a proportional relationship between residual stress and maximum shear stress.

Calibration of CCD sensors mounted on geodetic measuring systems

Lajos Volgyesi et al.

Summary: The text discusses the calibration process needed when replacing the eyepiece of a total station with a CCD sensor, to establish a connection between the instrument's readings and the coordinate system of the CCD sensor. A collimator is used as a distant target during calibration, and testing was done using a QDaedalus astrogeodetic measuring system to investigate the optimal number of calibration measurements, raster size, and temperature dependence of the measurements.

Development of a multivariate spectral emissivity model for an advanced high strength steel alloy through factorial design-of-experiments

Fatima K. Suleiman et al.

Summary: This paper presents an empirical approach for modeling the spectral emissivity of advanced high strength steel, and found that the response surface methods (RSM) is a viable approach for developing spectral emissivity models for pyrometry applications. The study shows significant main and interaction effects across the spectral range, with different factors dominating at shorter and longer wavelengths. The predicted spectral emissivity values obtained from the model fitted for a three-channel pyrometer show good agreement with the measurements.
