Effect of V and Ti on the Oxidation Resistance of WMoTaNb Refractory High-Entropy Alloy at High Temperatures

Shuaidan Lu et al.

Summary: Alloying with V and Ti elements affects the oxidation behavior of WMoTaNb RHEAs. The addition of V aggravates the volatility of oxides and leads to disastrous internal oxidation. The addition of Ti reduces the mass gain in forming the oxide scale and prolongs the passivation duration.

Summary: The study used Kinetic Monte Carlo (KMC) simulation to investigate the metastability in AlCoCrFeMo0.05Ni2 HEA and successfully predicted the phase separation behavior in a FCC solid solution. During annealing at 973 K, Al atoms were found to occupy preferentially vacancies and eventually formed the (Ni, Al)-rich phase, promoting the growth and transition of the phase from FCC to BCC structure.

Summary: Extraordinary strength and good tensile ductility are achieved in (Zr0.5Ti0.35Nb0.15)(100-x)Al-x alloys at room temperature. The relatively low densities exhibited in these alloys make them attractive structural materials. Experimental study on WFeNiMo high-entropy alloy projectile penetrating semi-infinite steel target

Hai-hua Chen et al.

Summary: The emergence of high-entropy alloys (HEAs) allows materials to have both high strength and high ductility, making them suitable for extreme conditions such as penetration processes. Experimental results indicate that the penetration mode of HEA projectiles changes from self-sharpening to mushrooming with increasing impact velocity, while the penetration mode of tungsten heavy alloy (WHA) projectiles remains mushrooming. The microstructure evolution of HEAs results in the blunting of projectiles.

Superior High-Temperature Strength in a Supersaturated Refractory High-Entropy Alloy

Rui Feng et al.

Summary: High-entropy alloys show promising applications at high temperatures and a single-phase alloy with high-temperature strength can be designed based on intrinsic material characteristics. The high-temperature strength retention is attributed to mechanisms such as large atomic-size and elastic-modulus mismatches, insensitive temperature dependence of elastic constants, and dominance of non-screw character dislocations caused by strong solute pinning.

High-Entropy Alloys for Advanced Nuclear Applications

Ed J. Pickering et al.

Summary: High-entropy alloys (HEAs) offer expanded compositional freedom for advanced nuclear applications, but our understanding of their irradiation responses is still in its infancy. While some studies suggest special irradiation damage resistance in HEAs, proposed mechanisms like sluggish diffusion and lattice distortion are not universally convincing, and unique differences in HEAs compared to conventional alloys may lie in factors like poor thermal conductivities.

Microstructure formation mechanism and corrosion behavior of FeCrCuTiV two-phase high entropy alloy prepared by different processes

Shaoqiu Xia et al.

Summary: The microstructure and corrosion resistance of FeCrCuTiV high entropy alloy were studied, with results showing that the laser melting deposition process reduces grain size and volume fraction of Cu-rich phase. The higher cooling rate of laser melting deposition contributes to limited grain growth and decreased Cu-rich phase volume fraction. FeCrCuTiV high entropy alloy prepared by laser melting deposition exhibits better corrosion resistance in salt solution electrochemical corrosion test due to reduced Cu-rich phase.

Improving the hydrogen embrittlement resistance of a selective laser melted high-entropy alloy via modifying the cellular structures

Summary: This study demonstrates that modifying cellular structures through controlled annealing can effectively improve the hydrogen embrittlement resistance of selective laser melting processed alloys. Annealing preserved cellular structures while reducing dislocation densities, slightly reducing strength but significantly increasing ductility and HE resistance. The delayed crack initiation and propagation were attributed to hydrogen-enhanced local plasticity with formation of nano-twins and dislocation cells in the modified structures.
