Mitigating the detrimental effects of heat stress in poultry through thermal conditioning and nutritional manipulation

Mahmoud Madkour et al.

Summary: The poultry industry is facing various challenges, including climate change, increased demand for meat and eggs, and the spread of diseases. Among these challenges, environmental issues, particularly heat waves, pose a severe threat to the growth and productivity of poultry. With the worsening of climate change and the rise in global temperatures, strategies to mitigate the negative effects of heat stress on poultry must be urgently developed.

Evaluation of light emitting diode characteristics on growth performance of different poultry species: a review

O. M. Oso et al.

Summary: Agriculture and climate are closely linked, and LED bulbs are considered a promising replacement for conventional lighting in poultry production. However, there is limited knowledge on the effects of LED bulb characteristics on turkeys, ducks, geese, and quails. Studies on broiler production suggest that the effects of LED light on birds are influenced by factors such as wavelength, correlated colour temperature, age, sex, and season. It has been observed that monochromatic green and blue light can enhance growth performance in broiler birds, and combining green and blue light at certain stages can further improve growth. The impact of light spectrum on poultry has not been fully explored, and future research can focus on the effects of ultraviolet light on different poultry species and the development of poultry-specific LED lights adapted to avian spectral sensitivity.

Influence of LED bulb on reproductive and production performance of different poultry species: a review

O. M. Oso et al.

Summary: This review highlights the importance of light, especially wavelength, in the poultry environment and its impact on reproduction and production in poultry birds. LED technology shows potential in improving sperm quality and egg production in chickens and other birds. However, there is a lack of research on the effects of LED on ducks, geese, and quails. Further studies are needed to explore the potential benefits of shorter wavelength light, such as ultraviolet, in poultry production. Additionally, more scientific information should be made available on the impact of LED on Guinea fowl, turkeys, and breeder birds.

Modelling conditions of storing quality commercial eggs

Jacqueline Akelo Gogo et al.

Summary: Based on a study evaluating the effect of different storage temperatures and durations on egg quality, it is recommended to store eggs at 5 degrees Celsius for 32 days, 19.5 degrees Celsius for 14 days, and a maximum of 7 days at 30 degrees Celsius. The fixed-effect models exhibited less variance in various aspects of egg quality and were deemed suitable for randomized completely block design experiments.

Summary: The study found that targeted green light stimulation during the last stage of broiler incubation can increase somatotropic axis expression, and conducting this stimulation during the late stage of incubation can achieve similar results to continuous stimulation throughout the incubation period.

Improvement of goose embryonic and muscular developments by wider angle egg turning during incubation and the regulatory mechanisms

B. B. Guo et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that using a wider 70-degree egg turning angle can reduce post-18-day embryo mortality, promote embryonic growth and development, improve hatchability, and enhance gosling quality. Additionally, wider turning angles also increase the mRNA expression levels of genes related to muscle growth and development.

Effects of ventilation programme and eggshell thickness on hatchability rate and hatching time of broiler eggs

N. Okur et al.

Summary: The study found that eggshell thickness and atmospheric concentrations in the incubator did not significantly affect embryonic death rates and hatchability of fertile eggs. Oxygen supplementation in the incubator was deemed unnecessary at higher altitudes. There was a significant interaction between eggshell thickness and hatching time.
