RNA-seq Analysis Reveals Potential Molecular Mechanisms of ZNF580/ZFP580 Promoting Neuronal Survival and Inhibiting Apoptosis after Hypoxic-ischemic Brain damage

Chongjuan Yin et al.

Summary: Hypoxic-ischemic brain damage (HIBD) is a major cause of neonatal death and nervous system impairment, but effective treatments are still lacking. In this study, the researchers found that the expression of ZNF580 increased significantly in neonatal HIBD rats and oxygen-glucose deprivation (OGD) SH-SY5Y cell models. Overexpression of ZNF580 promoted neuron survival and suppressed neuron apoptosis, while interference with ZNF580 had the opposite effects. Further analysis identified differentially-expressed genes (DEGs) and revealed their roles in axon growth, development, DNA biosynthesis, replication, and apoptosis. The study suggests that ZNF580 targets these genes to inhibit neuronal apoptosis.
