Early use of nitazoxanide in mild COVID-19 disease: randomised, placebo-controlled trial

Patricia R. M. Rocco et al.

Summary: In patients with mild COVID-19, there was no difference in symptom resolution between nitazoxanide and placebo groups after 5 days of treatment, but early nitazoxanide therapy significantly reduced viral load.

Antineoplastic kinase inhibitors: A new class of potent anti-amoebic compounds

Conall Sauvey et al.

Summary: Despite the availability of metronidazole, nearly 70,000 people die annually from Entamoeba histolytica infection. This study found that anticancer kinase inhibitors, such as dasatinib, bosutinib, and ibrutinib, showed promise as potent drugs against the parasite, with some demonstrating both amoebicidal and cysticidal properties. These findings suggest a potential new therapeutic strategy for amoebiasis.

Decabromodiphenyl ethane exposure damaged the asymmetric division of mouse oocytes by inhibiting the inactivation of cyclin-dependent kinase 1

Feifei Shi et al.

Summary: In this study, it was found that DBDPE exposure did not affect the first polar body extrusion of oocytes in mice. However, exposure to DBDPE impaired the asymmetric division of oocytes, resulting in larger polar bodies. This was due to the inhibition of spindle migration and membrane protrusion in oocytes during anaphase I, as well as the suppression of cyclin-dependent kinase 1 inactivation.

7,8-Dihydroxyflavone suppresses proliferation and induces apoptosis of human osteosarcoma cells

Jing Zhao et al.

Summary: Recent studies have shown that 7,8-dihydroxyflavone (7,8-DHF) can inhibit the development of osteosarcoma by regulating Akt/Bad and MAPK signaling pathways. This study demonstrated that 7,8-DHF reduced cell viability, promoted apoptosis, inhibited migration, and induced oxidative stress in osteosarcoma cells. The findings suggest potential pharmacological effects of 7,8-DHF for improving drug therapy in osteosarcoma patients.

Oxidative Stress-Induced Unscheduled CDK1-Cyclin B1 Activity Impairs ER-Mitochondria-Mediated Bioenergetic Metabolism

Jan-Gowth Chang et al.

Summary: This study reveals a novel molecular mechanism of the pro-apoptotic activity controlled by oxidative stress to modulate ER-mitochondrial bioenergetic metabolism, as well as suggests the disruption of CDK1-cyclin B1-mediated BCL-2/BCL-x(L) oncogenic activity by triggering oxidative stress-induced PI3K-Akt-GTP-Rac1 inactivation as a therapeutic approach for NPC.
