Simultaneous doping of sulfur and chloride ions into ZnO nanorods for improved photocatalytic properties towards degradation of methylene blue

Zaheer Ahmed Ujjan et al.

Summary: In this study, sulfide and chloride ions were successfully doped into ZnO through hydrothermal method. The doped ZnO nanostructures showed no significant change in morphology, retaining the wurtzite crystal structure with a red shift in XRD results. The successful doping of sulfide and chloride ions was confirmed by elemental analysis. Importantly, the optical band gap of ZnO was reduced upon doping, leading to enhanced photocatalytic properties. The doped ZnO photocatalyst achieved a high photo-degradation efficiency of methylene blue.

Highly surface-active Si-doped TiO2/Ti3C2Tx heterostructure for gas sensing and photodegradation of toxic matters

Qui Thanh Hoai Ta et al.

Summary: Si@TiO2/Ti3C2Tx heterostructures were synthesized in situ from Ti3AlC2 MAX phase by combining high-temperature Si diffusion and HF etching. The optimal heterostructure showed semiconductor behavior with enhanced surface area due to the distribution of small TiO2 particles over Ti3C2Tx MXene. The heterostructure exhibited excellent 2,4-Dinitrophenol photodegradation and room-temperature NO2-sensing capabilities, with the photocatalytic degradation attributed to broad light absorption and efficient carrier separation by Schottky contact. Density-functional theory calculations suggested that Si atoms could facilitate NO2 adsorption, highlighting the multi-functionality potential of Si@TiO2/Ti3C2Tx heterostructure.

Adsorption of lead on the surfaces of pristine and B, Si and N-doped graphene

Navaratnarajah Kuganathan et al.

Summary: The study utilized density functional theory calculations to examine the efficacy of graphene and graphene doped with B, Si, and N surfaces for the removal of Pb atom. It was found that the binding energy was significantly enhanced on the B-doped and Si-doped graphene surfaces, while the N-doped graphene showed endothermic binding energy due to negligible charge transfer. The strong binding nature between Pb and the pristine as well as the doped graphene structures was introduced, analyzed, and discussed in terms of bond distances, binding energies, Bader charges, and electronic structures.
