Recent advances in biomass-derived platform chemicals to valeric acid synthesis

Ramyakrishna Pothu et al.

Summary: This review focuses on the conversion of biomass-derived carbohydrates into platform chemicals and the potential applications of these chemicals in renewable additives for fuels. It specifically discusses the direct transformation of levulinic acid (LA) into valeric acid (VA) and gamma-valerolactone (GVL), which are important pathways in the biorefinery industry. The review provides valuable information for the research and development of catalysts for biomass conversion.

Effect of the support composition on catalytic and physicochemical properties of Ni catalysts in oxy-steam reforming of methane

Pawel Mierczynski et al.

Summary: This study investigated the catalytic properties of Ni catalysts supported on different oxide surfaces in the oxy-steam reforming process of methane. The Ni/CeO2·La2O3 (2:1) catalyst exhibited superior activity and selectivity towards hydrogen formation, attributed to the high content of Ni species on the catalyst surface. However, the low activity of Ni catalysts supported on La2O3 or oxide with high lanthanum content is due to the strong interaction of NiO with the support.

Perspectives on Multifunctional Catalysts Derived from Layered Double Hydroxides toward Upgrading Reactions of Biomass Resources

Yusen Yang et al.

Summary: Heterogeneous upgrading reactions are a promising and pivotal strategy for efficient utilization of biomass resources to produce chemical energy, fuel, and hydrogen. Supported catalysts play a key role in determining catalytic activity and selectivity, with the efficiency relying on the properties of metals, supports, additives, reactors, and reaction conditions. Catalysts derived from layered double hydroxides (LDHs) precursors have shown outstanding catalytic performance and offer innovative strategies for high-efficiency LDHs-derived catalysts.
